Seven years ago, Mark and Lisa were young professionals, living in Beacon Hill, one of Boston's most desirable neighborhoods. They had a great life in the city, but their long-term plan was to buy a more spacious home in the suburbs. Their search started out in Lexington and Concord; however, the available houses weren't meeting their needs. It wasn't until they came to Wrentham to see a model home at The Preserve at Oak Hill that they found what they were looking for.
The development, consisting of 62 lots on over 200 acres of land, is located in the Sheldonville area of Wrentham, close to Autumn Road. Within minutes, you can get to Franklin, Bellingham, or Rhode Island, and the commuter rail will get you into Boston within an hour. A notable characteristic of this neighborhood is that it doesn't abide by Sheldonville's two-acre-lot rule. The town granted the builder an exception, because a large portion of the land was donated to conservation. As a result, the neighborhood is surrounded by over 100 acres of open space.
New construction in a large family neighborhood, and at a reasonable price, is exactly what Mark and Lisa were looking for. They worked closely with the builder to pick from all the available designs, and, within a year, they moved into their custom-built home. Two weeks later, they received the wonderful news that they were expecting their first child.
Though I live in my Olde Farmhouse closer to town center, I always enjoy coming to Oak Hill to see Lisa. Many families that I've met through my daughters' schools live in the neighborhood, and there are always kids playing together outside. What really impressed me is how many fun neighbor activities are regularly organized. Whether it's a wine night, a poker game, or a golf outing at the Bungay Brook Golf Club next door, there is no problem having a busy social life in this rural area.
The walk-out basement is fantastic! I couldn't believe how nice and cozy it was when I first went down there. The large windows bring in so much natural light, the gas fireplace warms up the room so nicely, and the plush carpet just makes you want to curl up on the floor. The best part is that when Mark and Lisa moved in, the basement was unfinished. Mark followed the steps of The Complete Guide to Finishing Basements and as you can see by the picture above, Mark sure knows how to follow instructions!
